For garlic bread, you will need:
8 oz / 225 g strong bread flour
1 tsp yeast
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp sugar
2 tsp dry herbs (optional, mixture of basil, parsley and rosemary is excellent)
1 tbsp olive oil
2/3 cup or 150 ml warm water
4 cloves of fresh garlic, crushed
1/3 cup or 75 ml butter
(serves 4)
Mix everything except the garlic and butter in a bread machine on the “pizza dough” setting. Alternatively, mix in a large bowl by hand and knead into the soft dough. Allow to expand in a warm environment for 1 1/2 hours. Spread the soft dough over a baking sheet (lightly greased with olive oil) by hand or using a rolling pin. Bake in a preheated oven at 220°C (425°F) for 10 minutes. In the meantime, melt the butter in a small pan and gently fry the crushed garlic for 5 minutes over low heat. Remove the bread from the oven, pour the garlic butter over the top and spread evenly with a brush or spoon. Return to oven and bake for a further 10 minutes without burning. Scissor into thin strips and serve.
